This garden was selected as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel + Leisure Magazine and is considered the oldest public garden in the country.

CJ Lotz Diego writes in the December 20, 2016 issue of Garden & Gun:

“The “winter roses” at Magnolia carry a serious pedigree. Before the Civil War, the estate held the most extensive planting in the country, with the one-time owner Rev. John Grimke-Drayton writing in 1854, “I have discovered that there were a hundred and twenty double varieties there. How many singles, semi-doubles, peony forms and others, I do not pretend to know. I can only describe their number as Legion.” Today, 20,000 camellias are on display throughout the winter and spring, with a focus on “ancient” (pre-1900) varieties.”

We will travel via motorcoach to South Carolina where we will meet our local guide and enjoy lunch at the Crab House at Wapoo Creek, before heading to Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. We will tour the Plantation Home and learn about the history of the Drayton Family, then hop on the tram for a nature tour through the ground’s wetlands, lakes, forests, and marshes. We will also have some free time to wander the gardens themselves. Finally, we will re-board the coach for the journey home.

The cost will be $190 per person based on 30 people attending (includes lunch). This will increase if less people sign up, and decrease if more people sign up. The capacity of the bus is 54 people.

      8:30 am - Depart Savannah from 1101 Chatham Parkway, Savannah (Clayton Reprographics)
     11:00 am - Arrive at Crab House at Wapoo Creek for lunch (choose from 3 entrees)
     12:45 pm - Arrive at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens for tour
      5:00 pm - Leave Magnolia Plantation & Gardens to return to Savannah
      7:30 pm - Arrive back in Savannah
